With breathtaking architectural features and stunning views of the Sea of Cortez, OMNIA Los Cabos captivates our guest with the ultimate beachclub experience.

We sat down with lead architect Shawn Sullivan, Partner at Rockwell Group, to learn more about the inspiration behind the venue.

When first asked to create the designs for our San José del Cabo dayclub and restaurant venues, what was your inspiration behind the project?

At Vidanta Los Cabos, we were tasked with updating the resort’s amenity spaces and improving circulation and access, while also pivoting the resort’s appeal to a younger demographic. We designed four venues for Hakkasan Group: OMNIA Dayclub; Casa Calavera, Hakkasan Group’s first Mexican restaurant concept; SHOREbar, an open-air bar and lounge; and Herringbone restaurant. Part of what makes this property so unique is its setting and connection to the Sea of Cortez. Every design move opens up the venues to the amazing sea views and draws inspiration from the local Cabo environment and vibrant culture.

From the two-story villas at OMNIA, to the Dia de Los Muertos theme at Casa Calavera, the architecture and interior design of these venues captivates all who visit. Can you give us some details about the project, such as materials and design elements?

OMNIA Dayclub is at the edge of the resort, directly facing the beach. The dayclub is arranged around a central pool with a collection of lounging spaces, such as cabanas and two-story VIP villas. We raised the elevated pools by two meters for better views. Daybeds and outdoor sofas line the perimeter. A sculptural, tree-like trellis surrounds the space, adding shade and a sense of privacy. The trellis peaks up at the entrance to the club as a beacon. Bamboo cabanas are juxtaposed with jewel-toned daybeds.

We grounded the other amenities with regional materials such as rope, Mexican tile & wood, and locally sourced furniture. SHOREbar is a large, casual, open-air pavilion defined by a curved thatch roof. We reoriented the bar so that it has views of the ocean. Clusters of pendant lights hang over wood lounges and tables, with subtle blue-hued accents. Classic 70s board games and a back garden outfitted with swings add a youthful feel. In Casa Calavera, we sourced tables, seating, and light fixtures from local galleries and markets. Architectural finishes, from Mexican tiles to pebbles, stacked stone, and traditional Mexican altar shadowboxes set into niches, add texture and color.

With all the beautiful places to visit and things to do San José del Cabo, in your opinion, what makes the venue unique?

At Rockwell Group, we think about theatricality, and use the tools of choreography and transformation, in terms of planning a space. We choreographed the guests’ path throughout the property so that one experience can flow into the next. The pavilioned spaces are stacked and sit on a series of the resort’s pools, culminating with OMNIA Los Cabos. It provides multiple moments and experiences from day to night – something that we feel is very unique for the location. For example, the dayclub is connected to Casa Calavera. Guests can see a DJ during the day and unwind with beachside tacos in the evening.

OMNIA Los Cabos recommends stopping at the entrance experience for the #1 can’t miss picture, which we call the #OMNIAskywalk, one of Los Cabos’ most Instagrammable moments.

What is your favorite feature of OMNIA Dayclub Los Cabos?

Everyone can have a great time. We spent a lot of time crafting and shaping the space from the site angles to the plan layout. The DJ booth sits at the front of the pool in the middle of the club so there’s not a bad seat in the house, and people really seem to feel that it’s different than any other dayclub. Not to mention, the location of the property itself is really spectacular. We loved the idea of creating a pool and social experience that sits right at the edge of the San José del Cabo beach with the infinite ocean beyond.

We love for our guests to know where they can capture the best pics! In your opinion, what are the most photogenic spots?

OMNIA Dayclub has an organic flow: guests can move around constantly, for great perspectives and panoramic views. One of my favorite viewpoints is from one of the two-story villas, overlooking both the Sea of Cortez and the club atmosphere below.
